Inclusive Cheerleading with Unity Allstars

At Unity Allstars, we believe cheerleading is for everyone. Furthermore, our Cheer Abilities teams are built for athletes with additional needs. They offer an inclusive and empowering environment where every athlete can shine. Also, the program focuses on confidence, teamwork, and physical skills. In addition, it celebrates each participant’s unique strengths and fosters lasting friendships. As a result, athletes feel they truly belong. Because of our commitment to accessibility and inclusion, we’re excited to expand the Cheer Abilities program. First, we will be launching an adult team soon. This new team will give adults with additional needs the chance to experience the thrill of cheerleading in a supportive community. At Unity, we’re not just building teams – we’re building a family where everyone has a place to cheer.
Team Platinum
Unity Allstars Platinum offers sessions to children with additional needs and learning disabilities. In these sessions, athletes learn all aspects of cheerleading. Also, they have opportunities to perform at local events and regional competitions. Furthermore, the aim is to create a safe and welcoming environment. This means children can develop skills and feel like they truly belong to a team. Moreover, parents can meet other families with similar experiences. Classes are run by Chloe Redmonds, an experienced SEN cheer coach with a decade of experience behind her running a SEN Cheer programme within our local community (Surrey Twisters Sunshine). Chloe, along with additional Unity volunteers, work with these athletes to ensure that they enjoy fun and safe classes.

Team Gold

Another strand to the Unity programme is Unity Allstars Gold. We are England’s first ever competitive Special Abilities cheerleading squad for young people with a range of learning, sensory and physical disabilities in the Peterborough area. Set up and coached by Sarah Bedford and Amee Garala, who was previously a member of the first Unity AllStars team, Amee has since pursued her dream of providing the opportunity to cheerlead for these talented individuals. To see the faces of these young people achieve and build their self confidence is just incredible.

Unity Allstars Gold (previously known as Unity Superstars) are really are leading the way for special abilities teams across the UK. They have been in existence now for five years and in that time have celebrated many successes. They have performed at local events, including the London 2012 Olympic torch relay at Wansford, as well as having competed at ICC and Future Cheer competitions, both at a regional and national level.

The team also represented the UK at the very prestigious USASF Cheerleading Worlds Championships in Florida, USA in 2010. Not only did many dreams come true in America, many were created which is what Gold are all about: striving for excellence and being the best we can.

“As a parent of a child with special educational needs, finding the right activities that are both inclusive and genuinely enjoyable can be a challenge. Unity and team Platinum has been an absolute gem for our daughter and our family. From the moment she joined, we saw her confidence bloom. The coaches are not only skilled but incredibly kind, patient, and understanding of every child’s individual needs. This group doesn’t just focus on cheerleading—it creates a sense of belonging. Our daughter looks forward to every session, and the joy it brings her is truly heartwarming. She’s developed not only physical skills but also friendships, teamwork, and self-belief. We couldn’t be more grateful for the safe, supportive, and empowering environment Unity provides. Thank you for making such a positive difference in our daughter’s life!”
